PULA provides for EMS through a contracted partner EMERGENCY ASSIST 991 (EA991). EA991 has been providing these services to our members at no additional cost to the member and their beneficiaries. The service is available 24/7 and 365 days a year ensuring that members are covered in times of need. The service is not only limited to Emergency medical conditions but also includes a help line that assists with telephonic first aid and emergency services for minor to major injuries and inter-hospital transfers. An insurance product designed to cover the costs and reduce the risk associated with unexpected events during international travel. Travel insurance usually covers the insured in two main categories: costs associated with medical expenses and trip cancellations lost luggage, flight accident and other losses. PULA provides (with effect from 1 July 2015), International Travel Insurance for its members in the Executive and De-luxe Benefit Options. The offering is administered and underwritten by Botswana Insurance Company (BIC), a reputable short-term insurance provider based in Botswana.

PULA provides a comprehensive benefit for preventative care and wellness screening for Executive and Deluxe Members in accordance with PULA Fund rules. PULA wellness screening facilitates access to tests that help identify member’s risk for chronic diseases by testing for;

  • Blood pressure
  • Glucose
  • Cholesterol and weight/BMI
  • HIV screening
  • Mammogram
  • Pap smear
  • Prostate
  • Review consultations

Members are encouraged to utilize the wellness screening benefit for early illness identification which will in turn facilitate for timely referral and medical intervention should that be required.

Having a baby and being pregnant can be one of the most exciting and special times in a family’s life, as well as nerve wracking. This is why we at PULA med have tailored a maternity care programme to provide our members and their dependents with as much information as possible to have a healthy pregnancy.

Because we know our members are often on the go, we are also giving PULA members who enroll on the programme a PULA baby hamper bag with some goodies to enjoy when they graduate from the programme during their last trimester. The PULA baby hamper bag is only available for collection for mother who had registered for the programme in their first trimester. 

PULA Baby maternity care programme is more than just medical peace of mind for expectant mothers. It is our way of offering members support when they need it the most.

This programme is at NO cost to the member or their dependents and does NOT affect monthly premiums.

Members/dependents can enrol on the programme on their 12th week of pregnancy (at least 16weeks) by completing and submitting the form below to marketing@afa.co.bw

Death is an unforeseen stage in life that could bring financial strain to a family. Our PULA funeral benefit offers a payout upon the death of principal or dependent members to extend financial support for use as they see fit in their painful time of mourning. The funeral benefit is paid to a surviving spouse or some other nominated family member.

The payout schedule is as:

When Claiming

Beneficiaries should submit the claim for the benefit within 6 months of the occurrence of death and provide the following;

  • Certified copy of Death certificate or Death notification from a registered medical practitioner or any such authorized person
  • Certified Copy of ID (Omang) for the beneficiary, if the beneficiary is the surviving spouse, certified copy of marriage certificate should also be attached.
  • Letter from Tribal Authority confirming Full Names and ID Number of the Beneficiary as well as the marital status of the deceased. If the beneficiary is a child, the letter should also contain signatures of other remaining Children.
  • Letter from District Commissioner supporting the Tribal Authority Letter
  • The benefit should be collected by the beneficiary in Person at our offices

We provide continuation of cover after death of a principal member.

There is nothing as comforting as knowing you are leaving your family in the right hands when you are gone. That is why we have introduced Premium Waiver Benefit for ALL members at no cost to them with effect from 1 July 2016. The Premium Waiver benefit enables remaining covered family members to continue for a period of 12 months after the death of the Main Member. Just our little way of sharing in your sorrow.
